DECEMBER 2008

  • We have now produced 3 brews of Clementine, as well as another festive beer Pickaxe. 
  • The last couple barrels of Toothpick (6.5%) are at the Crown at Worthington.
  • Ditchie & Salty’s Big Brew will now be produced under the name of Big Brew with a new pump clip showing a miners brew can in keeping with the mining theme adopted by the brewery.
  • The ‘secret’ programme filmed at the brewery last summer is due to be shown on BBC2 on 13th January.

NOVEMBER 2008

  • We have now brewed our Christmas beers - Pickaxe and Clementine. Two barrels of Clementine have already been distributed. One to a beer festival in Sheffield and the other to the Crown at Worthington. 
  • Big Adventure has been brewed for bottling so that it will be available when the TV series comes out in January. 
  • A private commission has been received from a dentist for a special brew - a 6.5% dark beer called 'Toothpick'. Any surplus requirement will be available at the Crown at Worthington 

OCTOBER 2008

  • A ‘one-off’ beer was produced for the recent festival at the Crown @ Worthington called ‘Pie & Beer’.
  • Old favourite Clementine has been brewed and is maturing nicely for Christmas.
  • A brochure featuring a range of Christmas gift packs is shortly to be available.
  • Our beers are now available at the Continental at Preston, the New Hall Tavern in Salmesbury and the Trackside in Bury

SEPTEMBER 2008

  • the beer made ‘on air’ for Century FM (at the request of the DJs it is currently named Ditchy & Salty’s Big Brew) is selling well and likely to be a regular brew, though possibly under a different name.
  • We now have affiliated to a new ‘brewery tap’, the Crown at Worthington which plans to stock Silver Tally as a regular beer and other Prospect beers on a rotating basis.

AUGUST 2008

  • The brewery has been getting plenty media coverage as of late. After nominbation by Wigan CAMRA, Century FM ran their popular Breakfast Roadshow live from the brewery on 14th August. A one-off brew (a light beer) was brewed to commenorate the event - it was originally named ‘105.4’ after the radio-frequency but was later changed to 'Ditch and Salty's Big Brew'
  • Other new brews within the last month have been ‘Big Adventure’ & ‘Giants Hall’, a golden beer named after the Standish Lower Ground pit.
  • Upon request, we provided a beer for the Great British Beer Festival at Earls Court in London. We provided our award-winning 'Blinding Light' together with some bottled beers.

JULY 2008

  • On 29th July, Oz Clarke and James May popped into the brewery to 'help' to make a special brew. They also took the opportunity to sample all our 'core' brews. A chance meeting, and brief conversation, with Oz Clarke at the SIBA conference earlier in the year resulted in their visit as part of filming for their next programme about British drinks, due to be broadcast in October.

JUNE 2008

  • The brewery is nominated in the 'best new business' category for the British Small Business Champions (BSBC) awards.
  • After rave reviews, it was decided that the recently brewed ‘Nutty Slack’ should join the regular range of beers.
  • Blinding Light, which was produced especially for the Wigan Beer Festival 2008 and won a bronze award, is to be added to the bottled range of beers.
  • Plans established to develop a new light beer called '- Giants Hall.

MAY 2008

  • 'Nutty Slack', a delicious dark mild, is brewed and launched to commenorate CAMRA's Mild in May campaign.

FEBRUARY 2008

  • A new beer is being brewed for the Wigan Beer Festival - 'Blinding Light'. A bottled version is also planned but will not be available until after the festival.

JANUARY 2008

  • A new beer, 'Open Cask', is being brewed for the Bent & Bongs Beer Festival in Atherton.
  • 'Pickaxe Porter' is launched as a winter beer and will be available until March.
