Our beers

As Wigan has a proud mining tradition and as the original brew house was at the top of Prospect Hill in Standish, all our core range of beers are named along mining or prospecting themes,

BIG ADVENTURE (5.5%)
A well hopped, malty and powerful ale with a superb toffee finish. Part of our occasional beer range.
Initially brewed in July 2008 for the visit of Oz Clark and James May, both of whom kissed Patsy, who filmed at the brewery for their series 'Oz and James drink to Britain'.

BIG JOHN (4.8%)
A dark stout bursting with a smokey liquorice flavour  and a satisfying bitter aftertaste. Part of our occasional beer range.
Named after the song by Jimmy Dean about a 6ft 6in heroic miner. Patsy's husband just happens to be called John and is also over 6ft tall.

BLINDING LIGHT (4.2%)
A pale refreshing beer with citrus and spicy notes. Part of our core beer range.
Bronze award winner at Wigan Beer Festival 2008.
Named after the burst of light often seen at the head of a pit shaft by miners.

CLEMENTINE (5.0%)
Oh my darling, oh my darling .... what a beer. Spicy dark and luscious. One sip will have you hooked. Part of our seasonal beer range - brewed in December and January.
Named after the song and daughter of a miner in the 1894 California Gold Rush who tragically drowned.

DRAGON ALE (4.4%)
A dark golden beer packed with fresh ginger. Part of our seasonal beer range - brewed in March and April.
Brewed to commemorate St Georges' Day, which just happens to be Patsy's birthday.

DYNAMILD (5.2%)
A strong smooth mild packed with chocolate and roast coffee flavours – it will blow your socks off! Part of our seasonal beer range - brewed in May.

GIANTS HALL (4.1%)
Well balanced bitterness with fruity, slightly spicy and orangy/citrus notes. Part of our occasional beer range.
Named after a local coal colliery.

GOLD RUSH (4.5%)
A deep golden ale with a hoppy and bitter flavour, light fruity notes and a grassy floral finish. Part of our core beer range.
Named after the infamous Kondike Goldrush of 1896.

HOPPER (formally Hop Vine Bitter) (4.0%)
A pale golden beer  with citrus hops and a satisfying bitter sweet balance. Part of our core beer range.
Brewed specially and exclusively for the Hop Vine pub in Burscough.

NUTTY SLACK (3.9%)
A delicious dark mild with hints of liquorice and a smooth malty taste. Part of our core beer range.
SIBA National Silver Medal 2009, Mild Category.
Named after a type of coal much prized for its slow-burning qualities.

ONE-TWENTY (4.0%)
Yellow, gold with zesty citrus notes, clean tasting and refreshing. Part of our core beer range.
Named after the house (120 Wigan Road in Standish) which housed the original Prospect Brewery in the garage. Also brewed in memory of Beth Slevin, Patsy's mother-in-law, who lived at '120'.

ORESOME (3.8%)
A golden yellow bitter made with real lemons for a citrus and zesty taste. Part of our seasonal beer range - brewed in June, July and August.
Beer named by winner of competition run by the Crown Hotel at Worthington.

PANNED OUT (4.0%)
A tawny autumnal beer with full-bodied rounded bitterness and spicy notes. Part of our occasional beer range. 
Beer named by winner of competition run by the Berkeley pub in Wigan.

PICKAXE (5.0%)
A full bodied porter with a rich complex flavours with hints of chocolate. Part of our seasonal beer range - brewed in November and February.

PIONEER (4.0%)
A classic easy drinking, light bodied amber beer with aromas of dry pale malt and earthy hops. Part of our core beer range.
Pioneer is a term used to describe someone who migrated to the west coast of America in search of gold.

SILVER TALLY (3.7%)
A clean, pale golden beer with citrus aromas and full hop flavour, and a dry bitter finish. Our best-selling beer and part of our core beer range.
A silver tally was used by a miner in exchange for a lamp prior to going down into a coal pit. As such, it was used as an early form of a mine management system.

WHATEVER! (3.8%)
The latest addition to our beer range, a pale intensely hopped beer made with 4 different hop varieties. Part of our core beer range but being brewed just once a month throughout 2012 due to a global shortage of amarillo hops.
